Austrian club Rapid Vienna confirmed the transfer of U.S. international Terrence Boyd
, a late cut for
the USA's World Cup team, to German second division club Red Bull Leipzig. Meanwhile, Joe Gyau
is joining Borussia Dortmund's under-23 team, Boyd's former team, from Hoffenheim for
which he debuted in the Bundesliga at the end of the 2013-14 season.
The 23-year-old forward Boyd was rumored to have interest from clubs in England and Portugal after scoring 37 goals in
two seasons for Rapid Vienna in all competitions. He had one year left on his contract after joining Rapid from Borussia Dortmund's U-23s.
"I want to thank Rapid and numerous fans for two
outstanding years," Boyd said
in a statement on the Rapid website. "Unfortunately, it did not come with a title win, but my time in this
very special club was hugely important and beautiful to me. The decision to leave was not easy, because I have always felt very comfortable here, both in the club and in the city. A part of my heart
will always remain green and white."
Gyau played for Hoffenheim in its 3-2 loss to Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park. In a statement, BVB said it was "delighted to have added a versatile
and pacy attacking midfielder with enormous potential to their squad." Borussia Dortmund II plays in the German third division.
The 21-year-old Gyau played parts of the last
four seasons with Hoffenheim II and St. Pauli II.
Hoffenheim signed Gyau and Charles Renken
out of the U.S. residency program and parked them in
the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program until they could play in Germany at the age of 18.
