The strongest evidence that the soccer fever sweeping the country is not confined to the World Cup was evident on Monday night as hundreds of
fans jammed Orlando International Airport
to welcome Brazilian star Kaka
, who signed with Orlando City, which will
begin play in MLS in 2015.
The 32-year-old Kaka will move to MLS from AC Milan. Before Orlando City begins MLS play in 2015, he will play on loan to Brazil's Sao Paulo.
Orlando City will be only his fourth club in a career that began at Sao Paulo (2001-03) and took him to AC Milan twice (2003-09 and 2013-14) and Real Madrid (2009-13).
Kaka, winner of the
2007 Ballon d'Or, becomes the third winner of the award to sign with an MLS club after Lothar Matthaeus
(1990) and Hristo
He is close to Orlando City owner Flavio Augusto da Silva
and has vacationed in the Orlando area in the offseason for many years.
