[BRAZIL 2014] Lionel Messi
set up Angel Di Maria
for the game's lone goal in the
118th minute as Argentine escaped with a 1-0 win over Switzerland and moved into the quarterfinals against the USA-Belgium winner. But the Argentines needed some luck in the end as Blerim Dzemaili
hit the post in stoppage time.
Switzerland, which has not reached the quarterfinals since it hosted the tournament 60 years ago, was the
better team for a good portion of the first half but let Argentina take control after that.
The game turned on a turnover late in overtime as Messi was given room to run at the Swiss
defense, beating one player and drawing two other players to him so he could feed the open Di Maria on the right side for the game's only goal. July 1 in Sao Paulo Argentina 1 Switzerland 0 (OT).
