What They're Saying: Brazilian TV's Milton Neves

"This Spanish referee was like the Spanish team at this World Cup: a joke."

-- Band sports presenter Milton Neves on Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo, who officiated the Brazil-Colombia game, whistling a World Cup-high 51 fouls but waiting 64 minutes before issuing the first yellow card. None was given out on the play that left Brazilian star Neymar with a broken vertebra. (ESPN FC)

Not as bad as Howard Webb... he destroyed the 2010 Final...

He should go home. Like the Portuguese referee. The European referees have had the worst performances

Ric F, good comment, yet, I wouldn't hold my breath for FIFA to take some action. That game was as despicably referred contest as I ever witnessed; perhaps Webb's blindness in WC 2010 was closest to it. IMHO, FIFA is a joke, they don't say beep about mayhem in the box in league play, and all of a sudden it matters in this WC, and show total dereliction in not enforcing the diving that's been going on. They began loosing perspective many years ago for what is essential for the game. Blatter and his team must go!!!

Oh, come on you guys. That wasn't such a bad foul. And if the ref had been as effective as he should have been, Brazil would have been down to 9 players inside 20 minutes, and y'all would be bitching about how the ref ruined the game by sending people off.

K-R Roger; when the ref decides to dismiss the laws of the game than it becomes dereliction of duty; as for yourself, persistent and tactical fouling may be part of the game, but the laws demand they be punished. In this particular game the ref was out to lunch; and if u think the charge on Neymar was not that bad, you're either delusional or infatuated by malicious play.
