They started together for the first time in 14 games, and Gilles Barnes scored the fastest goal in team history -- 39 seconds -- to end the team’s goalless streak at 479 minutes. But a pair of goals by the league’s leading scorer, Bradley Wright-Phillips, pushed New York into the lead, 2-1. He scored once in each half to up his tally to 14 -- five against the Dynamo.
Davis, returning to play his first MLS game since representing the USA at the World Cup, converted a late penalty kick awarded when Chris Duvall was whistled for handling the ball while trying to clear it.
-- New England lost its fourth straight game, 2-1, to Real Salt Lake, which netted both of its goals on penalty kicks. The victory ended a five-game winless run for RSL.
Joao Plata and Javier Morales converted the penalties for RSL. Defender Chris Schuler earned the first penalty, which Morales converted, when fouled by Darrius Barnes, who atoned just two minutes later with a spectacular diving header from a Chris Tierney free kick. Plata restored the lead from the spot in the 65th minute.
Beckerman and Rimando returned to league action upon their return from World Cup duty as RSL won for the first time since May 17.
-- A week after holding onto a 1-0 against San Jose in the California Clasico for most of the second half, the Galaxy blew that lead against Portland in just two minutes and had to rally for a 2-2 tie.
Goalless for more than an hour, the game awoke in the 65th minute when Marcelo Sarvas broke the deadlock. Diego Valeri equalized for the Timbers two minutes later and in the 70th minute Portland took command with a goal from Jorge Villafana.
The Galaxy pushed upfield and capitalized on a defensive error to earn a point. Landon Donovan chipped a ball that Baggio Husidic centered in the direction of forwards Robbie Keane and Rob Friend, but instead it struck defender Raushawn McKenzie and rolled over the goal line.
30-yard screamer from Vancouver's Sebastian Fernandez for an early 1-0 lead that would turn into a well-earned 1-0
