FIFA’s disciplinary committee on Monday ruled that no retrospective action would be take on Colombia and Napoli defender Juan Zuniga for the tackle on Neymar that left the Brazil star with a fractured vertebra and ended his World Cup. In a statement, the world governing body said that its own rules prevented the case from being reopened because referee Carlos Velasco Carballo dealt with the incident on the field. While Carballo issued a foul for the late challenge, Zuniga did not receive a yellow card.
FIFA also said it would not consider Brazil's appeal against captain Thiago Silva after he received a yellow card that would keep him out of Tuesday's semifinal against Germany. The governing body said there was "no legal basis" to grant such a request. Silva was booked for blocking Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina as he was about to punt the ball. Since it was his second of the tournament he was automatically suspended.
