[AMERICANS ABROAD] Mix Diskerud
became the first foreign-based member of the 2014 U.S. World Cup team to return to action,
scoring with a lob in Norwegian club Rosenborg's 2-0 win at FK Jelgava in the second leg of their Europa League first qualifying round.
Diskerud, who did not play in the World Cup, scored
in the 74th minute of the win, which followed a 4-0 Rosenborg victory in the home leg. Rosenborg will face Ireland's Sligo Rovers in the second qualifying round.
It was Diskerud's second
goal of the season. He has one goal in six Tippeligaen games this season.
Rosenborg resumed play in the Tippeligaen after its World Cup break last Sunday with a 5-3 win over Haugesund
that left it in third place seven points behind leader Molde after 14 games. Bob Bradley
's Stabaek dropped to a tie for eighth place in the 16-team
league after suffering a 2-0 loss at Aalesund, its fourth loss in a row.
