Maradona: Messi Didn't Deserve Golden Ball

AS has quoted Argentina legend Diego Maradona as saying that Lionel Messi only won the Golden Ball award, which is given to the tournament’s best player, for marketing purposes after Argentina was beaten in Sunday’s final, 1-0, by Germany. “Poor thing, I’d give Messi heaven if possible,” Maradona is quoted as saying on his talk show. “But it’s not fair when the marketers want to give him something he didn’t win.” The 1986 World Cup winner added: “I feel for my country. It hurts me in the soul,” he continued. “I think Argentina were a little legless and the German tanks drew strength. Argentina overall deserved at least penalties.”
