Van Gaal to Assess United Fringe Players

The Guardian claims that Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal will make a quick assessment about whether to offer contract extensions to a number of fringe players, including Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley, Javier Hernández, Shinji Kagawa, Darren Fletcher and Ashley Young, as the Dutch coach arrives at Manchester United for his first day on Wednesday. Apart from Cleverley and Fletcher, whose contracts expire next summer, each of the aforementioned have two years remaining on their United contracts.
