Dwyer for USA?

In a series of tweets on Monday, Sporting Kansas City president Robb Heineman advanced the idea of beginning the process of making English striker Dom Dwyer an American citizen so he could play for the men’s national team. Heineman tweeted the idea the day after Dwyer’s two goals lifted SKC to a 2-1 win away to the Montreal Impact. Dwyer has 14 goals in 18 games so far this season.
In an interview with MLSSoccer.com, Dwyer said that he would certainly consider it if he ever had the opportunity. “Every player wants to play on the international stage,” Dwyer said. “I think if I were to get called in the future and have an opportunity, I think that's something every player would love to do and dream of.”
That said, he noted that if given the chance, representing England would be his first choice. “Obviously, the dream was always to play for England,” he said. “I never thought I'd have an opportunity to play for anyone else.”
Though Dwyer has had his green card since 2012, he wouldn’t be able to apply for U.S. citizenship until 2017 at the earliest.
