Toure Pledges Man City Stay

  • Guardian, Friday, July 18, 2014 4:42 PM
Yaya Toure on Friday vowed to remain at Manchester City as he called for an end to the speculation regarding his future that began immediately following Manchester City’s Premier League title win in May. At the time, Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, claimed that the club had disrespected his client by forgetting his 31st birthday. Over the next few months, the Ivory Coast international was continually linked with a number of clubs, notably Paris St. Germain and city rival Manchester United.

However, in an interview with Sky Sports, the pair confirmed that Toure would honor his contract, which runs until 2017. When asked about the change in attitude, the Ivorian said: “The fans have always been good to me, they’ve always been good to my family. I want to stay. I will always honor my contract. I don’t think about all this speculation. It’s a big pleasure to stay and enjoy the next season.”

He added: “Everything is fine now. There was a lot of speculation, you know. I think sometimes it’s quite disappointing. I need to do something for the fans, it’s important to let them know. They’ve done a lot for me. The team is preparing well and we will try to win again next season."
