Galaxy II signs academy product Jaime Villarreal

[USL PRO] Jaime Villarreal, younger brother of Jose Villarreal, signed with LA Galaxy II, becoming the first Galaxy academy player to sign a pro contract the Galaxy's reserve team program.

Villarreal scored 10 goals to help lead the Galaxy's under-17/18 team to a 19-3-5 record and the Southwest Division Championship and two goals to secure a 4-1 win over Chicago Magic PSG U-18 in the U.S. Soccer Development Playoffs. He also scored three goals in the Galaxy U-18s' 4-1 victory over Mexico’s Chivas Guadalajara at the Dallas Cup.

“Jaime is an exciting young player who has already shown his quality in our Academy,” LA Galaxy II head coach Curt Onalfo said. “He will give our squad another attacking option and we are excited to keep him in the LA Galaxy family as he moves to the professional level.”

Jose Villarreal
played for Galaxy in 2012 and 2013 and was loaned to Mexico's Cruz Azul earlier this year but has yet to play for the first team. The Galaxy has five other Homegrown players on its first-team roster. Many of them, along with current academy players, play regularly with Los Dos in USL PRO.
