WPS owner Borislow dies of heart attack

Borislow, owner of the telecom product MagicJack and a soccer dad, bought the Washington Freedom in 2011 and moved it to Florida, where he lived, but he ran into trouble with the league and other owners when he refused to market the team and abide by many of its minimum standards.
Borislow and WPS were in and out of the Florida courts and his legal battle was considered one factor in the struggling league's demise after the 2011 season. The league accused him of violations ranging from "unprofessional and disparaging treatment of his players to failure to pay his bills."
The team included Hope Solo, Abby Wambach, Christine Rampone, Shannon Boxx, Meghan Rapinoe and Christen Press, and Borislow was enormously popular with many of his players.
In a statement, MagicJack CEO Gerald Vento termed Borislow, who also owned race horses, as a visionary.
"Dan was a true telecom pioneer whose vision, creativity, energy, passion and single-minded focus was the driving force behind the success of magicJack," said Vento. "Our continued success is dedicated to extending his vision for the great company he created."
