Scorpions extend lead with fourth straight win

[NASL: Fall Week 3] The first-place San Antonio Scorpions extended their record to four wins in four games in the fall championship and their unbeaten streak to nine matches with a 2-0 victory at the Tampa Bay Rowdies in battle of unbeaten and untied teams.

San Antonio opened the scoring on an own goal in the 30th minute, and Sainey Touray added an insurance goal in stoppage time. The Scorpions are now five points clear in the fall standings and two clear for the overall lead in the combined standings.

Spring champion Minnesota United FC, the only other unbeaten and untied team, had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Atlanta Silverbacks when Jaime Chavez scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute. Christian Ramirez had his league-leading seventh goal for Minnesota United FC, whose unbeaten streak is seven matches.

"I thought we played very well," said new Silverbacks coach Jason Smith. "Should have been a fight, more fight than we had last week so it's something to build on. I like to see better but overall I'm satisfied with a point but I wanted three"

The Carolina RailHawks ended a three-game skid with a 3-0 victory over the Ottawa Fury. Forward Zach Schilawski scored twice, and Nazmi Albadawi added the third goal.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers also picked up their first point of the fall campaign with a 1-1 tie with the New York Cosmos at Lockhart Stadium. Jemal Johnson scored in the sixth minute for the Cosmos, but Jenison Brito responded with the equalizer in the 24th minute from a penalty shot.
