Beer Approved in the Big House

Normally, alcohol sale and consumption is strictly forbidden inside the University of Michigan's stadium, but beer will flow freely at the Big House this weekend as Real Madrid and Manchester United face off on Saturday as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup.

State officials confirmed Monday that Sodexo Management -- the company that handles concessions at Michigan Stadium -- was approved for a Class C license, which is good from July 29 to Aug. 3. A Class C license allows the applicant to sell beer, wine, mixed spirit drinks and spirits to consumers for consumption on the licensed premises only.

The game is expected to break the U.S. soccer attendance record for a soccer game, which is 101,799 at the Rose Bowl in 1984 for the Olympic gold-medal final between France and Brazil.
