Pulisic and Wright open with hat tricks in Mexico City

[USA UNDER-17 MEN] The U.S. under-17 national team was active on two fronts on Saturday, opening play at the Copa Mexico de Naciones in Mexico City with a 6-0 win over China and wrapping up the Open Nordic Tournament in Denmark with a 4-3 loss to Finland in the fifth-place game. Christian Pulisic and Haji Wright each had tricks in the win over China that was marred by a broken leg suffered by Joe Gallardo.

Pulisic, who recently moved to Borussia Dortmund, scored in the 20th, 42nd and 57th minutes while Wright, also rumored to be headed to Germany, added goals in the 28th, 58th and 61st minutes.

The U.S. U-17s were scheduled to play Argentina on Sunday, but it pulled out of the tournament following the death of Argentine federation president Julio Grondona. A Mexican third-division all-star team has taken Argentina's place in Group C. It opened with a 4-0 loss to Paraguay.

In Denmark, the U.S. U-17s' second team came back from 4-0 down on second-half goals by Logan Panchot, Elijah Rice and George Braima to make the score against Finland respectable. The tournament was won by Sweden with a 2-0 win over Norway.
