Robin Williams on soccer

[VIDEO PICK: Comedy] The late Robin Williams found a lot of good material in soccer. He celebrated the USA's qualification for the knockout stage at the 2002 World Cup with this hilarious sketch in his live on Broadway show. He takes aim at Brazilians, referees and players who feign injuries. In the second sketch, he adds all things French to his list of targets.

Yes, he played the sport in school and two of his most memorable films feature soccer scenes -- Dead Poets Society and Mrs. Doubtfire. He also was one of the hosts for the ’94 World Cup draw, where he made fun of the name “Mr. Blatter.”

Sorry. We need to call a spade a spade. Filth is unwanted. I too saw and heard what Robin Williams did at the pre 1994 USA hosted FIFA World Cup draw. The fact that FIFA officials rehearse that and knew what was coming for the live worldwide TV audience makes it even worse. Not a good moment for Robin Williams or anyone else. I was cringing at his antics then, just as I cringe and witness with shame his antics on this stage here in these short clips above. His own demise at the young age of 63 is the direct result of making many lousy choices, to include all the crude buffoonery as what features in these videos and most all of his career of the last four decades. Newsflash: There are standup comedians who never utter foul words, never go for the easy, cheap sleaze-talk jokes. Real laughs are precious and truly medicine for all of us - but they don't have to descend into the dark, vile, crude, licentious, and despicable. Williams was sleaze. And, though I would wish him another life outcome entirely, we always get the consequences of our own behavior. Williams own words reveal a debauched mind. Well, it is no wonder then that he commits suicide. No, again that is not an outcome one would wish for him But we always reap what we sow. None of us will ever be an exception. His antics and self-absorbed endless foul mouth in life are not to be celebrated, rather rejected.

Wow GO, I think 30-odd years of comic genius passed right by you with your sanctimonious attitude. I enjoyed Robin at the 1994 WC draw and many times before and since. He was a terrific actor, regardless of what you think. Life must be tough for you. Try watching Dead Poets Society.

GO...while I am not fond of four letter words, the clips shown were parts of an act for paying audiences who knew what to expect from Williams. You have to consider the audience he was playing to before judging him. I have seen him doing family-friendly bits for years and years. He was hilarious! Robin's body of work is amazing and I'm so sorry we've lost him. Like Jonathan Winters before him, he was haunted by demons. And the demons finally overcame him. We must treasure the days that we had him and mourn our loss.

@G.O… WOW…I Rarely agree with you,(I Had to bite my Typewriter over your Sexist comments in Alex Morgan Post)… But not so much from the Filth Angle, as from the Religious Angle…** Suicide is the most SELFISH thing a Person can do**… Think of how his 3 kids/Wife must feel… It sure is a Theological question as to whether or Not you can get to Heaven, by Pre-empting GOD’s Plan for your Life… I seriously Doubt HE appreciates it…Those that say, “Robin is in Heaven “Making GOD Laugh”” REALLY, You think GOD is Laughing at Robin’s Filthy, Selfish Life… You Want to make GOD Laugh? TELL HIM; YOUR PLANS, FOR YOUR LIFE…We ALL have Hard Times in Life, Being Eccentric or Gifted or Funny doesn’t give us the Right to Kill Ourselves… Only JESUS can Change a Person… Look for Your PEACE There, Not in Drugs, Sex and Rock ‘n Roll… Pastor Santiago, is done Preaching… as Ric would say; “PLAY ON” Don’t be a Quitter…
