Cristiano Ronaldo dedicated his man-of-the-match award to Sir Alex Ferguson after scoring twice for Real Madrid as Los Blancos won the UEFA Super Cup, 2-0, against domestic rival Sevilla. Ferguson, Manchester United’s former coach, attended the game as part of UEFA's technical committee, handing his former player the award after naming him man-of-the-match.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ronaldo said: "I am happy because I scored these two goals and I want to thank Sir Alex for handing me the man of the match trophy. He helped me a lot when I was just 18 in Manchester and I want to say I respect him and thank him so much for everything he did in my career.

Ferguson, who signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon for 12 million pounds ($20 million) in 2002 before selling him to Real for a then-world record fee of 80 million pounds ($133.6 million) in 2009, said the decision was not a difficult one. "Normally in a cup final it is difficult to choose a man of the match but Cristiano made it easy for me," he said.
