Pair of Ramirez golazos highlight big Minnesota win

[NASL: Fall Week 6] Spring champion Minnesota United FC remained unbeaten in the fall campaign with a 5-1 win over Indy Eleven that extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games. The United star again was Christian Ramirez, who increased his lead in the NASL scoring race with his 11th and 12th goals -- a bicycle kick and chip.

Minn. United 5 Indy Eleven 1

Daniel Mendes, Aaron Pitchkolan and Jamie Watson had the other goals for the Loons, who leapfrogged the San Antonio Scorpions, who play Sunday, into first place in the fall standings.

"It was a great night for the club," said United coach Manny Lagos. "There is a lot to talk about, but the result was that we won three big games during our homestand. To finish the homestand with nine points was great."

The Tampa Bay Rowdies climbed into third in the fall standings and into the fourth and final position in the overall standings with a 3-1 win over the New York Cosmos on goals from midfielders Keith Savage and Blake Wagner and defender Tamika Mkandawir.

"I think we were disciplined for the most part," said Rowdies coach Ricky Hill, "and that's how we have been working and practicing. Everyone played their roles well tonight, and they were rewarded for their efforts, so I'm delighted. We wish we had more nights like this at Al Lang Stadium because we really want to make this place our fortress."

-- A penalty kick from midfielder Neil Hlavaty deep into stoppage time gave FC Edmonton a 3-2 win at the Carolina RailHawks. Zack Schilawski continued his impressive scoring run, scoring a pair of goals in a losing effort.

-- Fafa Picault scored midway through the second half to earn Fort Lauderdale a 1-1 tie with Atlanta. With the Rowdies' victory, the Strikers are now even on points with their Florida rivals for fourth place in the NASL combined standings with 22 points, though Tampa Bay has a game in hand.
