Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bastia 2-0 in its second Ligue 1 clash of the season at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, but the French champ lost striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic early to an injury while midfielder Thiago Motta fractured his nose in a post-match incident with Bastia forward Brandao. Ibrahimovic lasted just 15 minutes before suffering a tear to his left oblique muscle, which will keep him out of action for an undetermined amount of time.
Goals from Lucas Moura and Edinson Cavani gave PSG the victory, but the big story was what happened after the game had ended. In the tunnel on the way to the locker room, Bastia striker Brandao headbutted Motta, fracturing his nose and sparking a brawl between both sets of players. After the game, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi called for the Brazilian to be “severely punished” for the incident.
Meanwhile, Coach Laurent Blanc said he was unsure of the prognosis for Ibrahimovic’s injury. "At first I thought he had taken a knock, but no, it was as he was turning that he hurt himself in the side. It is a strange injury," the Frenchman said. "I am not a doctor. I don't know if it is serious, but knowing Ibra, for him not to finish the match the pain must have been quite intense."
