COLLEGE WOMEN: Clemson, Washington climb in Soccer America Top 25

Clemson, fresh off a road sweep of Texas and Texas A&M, climbs from 12th to fifth in Soccer America's College Women's Top 25 following the first weekend of play.

Washington, unranked in the preseason Top 25, jumps to 15th after victories over Penn State and Ohio State in the Husky Invitational.

North Carolina remains atop the Top 25 after wins over Nebraska and California in Lincoln, Neb., and Notre Dame moves up one spot to No. 2 after impressive wins over Baylor and Eastern Illinois. Santa Clara, No. 2 in preseason, drops to No. 4 after tying Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.

Florida State, which won tight encounters with Pac-10 powers Arizona State and USC, rises to No. 3. Virginia is No. 6, giving the Atlantic Coast Conference four of the top six teams and five overall. Duke is No. 25.

Texas dropped from No. 4 to No. 7, Portland from No. 6 to No. 11 and Texas
A&M from No. 11 to No. 18.

No. 23 Illinois, No. 24 Cal Poly, Washington and Duke are newcomers to the Top 25. Dropping out were No. 15 Utah, No. 17 Colorado, No. 18 Ohio State and No. 21 Boston College.
