Hazing investigation prompts cancellation of UNM opener

In the aftermath of an incident in which Albuquerque fire and rescue and ambulance personnel were called on to treat two “highly intoxicated” 18-year-old students, the University of New Mexico is conducting an investigation into possible hazing and canceled Friday's women's soccer opener at Texas Tech. Athletic director Paul Krebs said in a statement released by the school: “I’ve consulted with Texas Tech, and in light of our continuing investigation, we have decided to cancel the game.”

    Hm. Underage drinking. Again. Yes, I know, at this point just allegations. But how can it be that alcohol can ever enter the picture for NCAA athletes at this level? Plus, if one is only 18 or 19 years old - how does that equate to being age 21 or older? Not that any of them should be drinking in the first place - at all these schools. Why is alcohol such a never ending fascination? A must have? It leads to a life of dependency. And worse. Even a 18 year old ought to know this.
