Aaron Ramsey was sent off as Arsenal eked out a 0-0 draw away to Besiktas in the first leg of its UEFA Champions League playoff series against the Turkish clubin Istanbul on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Welshman picked up a second yellow card for pulling back Oguzhan Ozyakup late in the second half. After the game, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger describedthe decision, which leaves the midfielder suspended for next week’s return-leg at the Emirates, as “unbelievable”.

“Neither the first nor thesecond yellow card was deserved for Aaron Ramsey,” Wenger said. “When you see some of the fouls that have been made tonight and we go home with Ramsey (given) a red card, it is a bitunbelievable.”

He added: “In the second half the performance of the referee [Milorad Mazic] was very bad. Ramsey’s second yellowcard, I cannot see where that comes from, it was a huge decision. I felt just a lot was wrong in the second half but, overall, it was a difficult game maybe to referee as well because everybody didfight for every ball, so maybe it was not easy for the referee as well.”
