Gomez ends drought, Requejo debuts for Xolos

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Herculez Gomez scored his first goal in 11 months, with the opening goal in new club Tigres' 2-0 win over second division Irapuato 2-0 at the Estadio Universitario in Mexico's Copa MX.

Gomez had not scored since recording a hat trick for Tijuana in September in the Concacaf Champions League. He has a string of 35 straight games without a goal in the Liga MX with Santos, Tijuana and now Tigres.

The midweek cup competition marked the first pro appearance for 18-year-old defender John Requejo, who signed with Tijuana over the summer.

He started in Tijuana's 0-0 tie at Coras de Tepic along with Alejandro Guido and Paul Arriola.  Fernando Arce Jr., who plays on the U.S. U-20s along with Requejo and Arriola, came on in the second half.

Former U.S. U-20 left back Juan Pablo Ocegueda started for Alebrijes de Oaxaca in its 0-0 tie at Chiapas, Emanuel Guzman, who bounced around USL PRO and the PDL, played for Merida in its 2-1 win over UNAM.

In the Concacaf Champions League, Ventura Alvarado was among the scorers as Mexico's Club America hammered Bayamon FC, 6-1, in the Puerto Rican club's regional debut.
