Conte: 'We're Counting on' Rossi

Antonio Conte said he is “counting on” New Jersey native Giuseppe Rossi as he draws up his plans for the Italian national team. The Fiorentina striker was not included in former Azzurri coach Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad due to doubts over his fitness, as he missed most of last season with a knee injury.

"We're very interested in this player," Tuttosport quoted Conte as saying. "I've come here to talk with [Fiorentina coach] Vincenzo Montella because we're very interested in Rossi and, together with him, we want to establish the right timeframe for the correct employment of the player.”

The former Juventus coach added: "I have faith in Montella and I'll wait for him to explain to me Rossi's condition, but like I said, we're very interested in this player. We're counting on him and he knows it."

That being said, Rossi won’t be in Conte’s first Italy squad as he has been ordered to rest after a scan revealed that his knee problems persist. He is also set to miss La Viola’s opening Serie A game against AS Roma.
