has parlayed a strong second season with Chivas USA into his first call-up to Mexico's national team
for games against Chile Sept. 6 at the new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and Bolivia Sept. 9 in Commerce City, Colorado. Torres, who is on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara, has scored 14

"Cubo" was one of six foreign-based players Miguel Herrera
called up. The others were goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa
(Malaga), midfielders Andres Guardado
(Valencia), Giovani Dos Santos
(Villarreal CF), Hector Herrera
(Porto) and forward Javier Aquino
(Rayo Vallecano). Herrera should name the rest
of Mexico's roster next week.
Torres, 21, played in every game when Mexico finished third at the 2011 Under-20 World Cup in Colombia. He also played in three games for Mexico in under-23
qualifying for the 2012 Olympics, but he did not made final squad won the gold medal.
He is one of the few Mexicans in MLS to get El Tri call-ups. Others include Jorge Campos
, Luis Hernandez
, Luis Suarez
, Cuauhtemoc Blanco
. By contrast, the others were at or near the end of their international careers.
