A day after acquiring Nigel Reo-Coker
from Vancouver for Mauro Rosales, Chivas USA acquired Colombian
defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado
from the Chicago Fire in exchange for allocation money. Chivas USA needs help in the back with Carlos Bocanegra
out with a concussion. From the Fire's point of view, the move clears space to make room for the possible arrival of Jermaine
Hurtado made 19 starts in his first season with the Fire after spending five seasons with Seattle. He was named as one of the finalists for MLS Defender of the Year in 2009,
his first year in MLS.
"Jhon is one of the top center backs in MLS," said Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabrera
. "He is athletic, strong, very
good in the air, and excellent in one-versus-one situations. His experience and winning mentality will be a huge addition to our club."
