Freshmen carry Nittany Lions in Top 25 matchup

[PENN STATE-WEST VIRGINIA: Women] No. 9 Penn State got a goal and assist from Emily Ogle and a goal from Frannie Crouse as the freshmen helped lead the Nittany Lions to a first-half blitz that resulted in 3-1 win over No. 16 West Virginia before more than 3,000 fans at the Penn State Invitational on Friday.

Thirteen minutes into the match, Crouse tucked senior Emily Hurd's cross to Crouse inside the far post for the 1-0 score. Seven minutes later, Ogle set up senior Kori Chapic for another goal at the far post. And a minute before halftime, Ogle made it 3-0 with a spot kick after another freshman, Meg Schafer, drew a penalty kick.
 
Canadian international Kadeisha Buchanan scored West Virginia’s lone goal off a corner kick by Kelsie Maloney.

“You can prepare and prepare and prepare, but at the end of the day they’ve got to perform,” Lions coach Erica Walsh told the Centre Daily after the game. “You never know what you’re going to get sometimes from freshmen. I tell you, their performance was outstanding.”
