Donnelly leaves with AD's blessing for U.S. Soccer

[SIU EDWARDSVILLE: Men] SIU-Edwardsville men's head coach Scott Donnelly resigned on the eve of the 2014 season without ever coaching a game to accept the position of Northeast technical advisor with U.S. Soccer. Donnelly, the former associate coach, had been promoted to head coach following the departure of Kevin Kalish in December.

Donnelly, who joined SIUE in 2012, will be replaced by assistants David Korn and Brian Jones, who will serve as co-coaches. He left with the blessing of SIU-E athletic director Dr. Brad Hewitt.

“First of all, this is a great thing for Cougar soccer, our department, university and coach Donnelly,” Hewitt told the Alton Telegraph. “U.S. Soccer came to recruit him. We are extremely excited for Scott. Each of us will have a colleague, mentor and friend in the highest level of U.S. Soccer. He did not pursue this opportunity, but, he was wise and brave enough to ‘seize the day." A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
