Di Maria: I was Forced Out by Real Madrid

  • ESPN FC, Wednesday, August 27, 2014 1:25 PM

In an open letter to Real Madrid fans, Angel Di Maria reveals that he did not want to leave the European champion but was forced out by the club’s board. The Argentine winger on Tuesday signed for Manchester United for a British record 59.7 million pounds ($99 million), but later claimed that it was never his intention to leave in the letter published by Marca.

“Sadly, now I have to go, but I want to make it clear that this was never my wish,” Di Maria wrote. “I've always wanted to progress, as anyone else does in their job. I went to the World Cup after winning the 'Decima' [Real Madrid’s 10th European Cup win] with the hope of getting some signal from the club management, but it never came. Many things were said and many lies circulated. They always wanted to pin the idea of leaving the club on me, but that's not how it was.”

He added: “Unfortunately, my soccer isn't to someone's taste. The only thing I asked for was a fair deal. There are many things that I value and a lot of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to find them at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, with which I'm hoping to make history.”

If it's true that Ancelotti wasn't the instigator of this move, then the Real board needs to be replaced? I only hope that this comes back to bite them.
