Following the British record $99 million arrival of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal is keen to offload fringe players like Danny Welbeck, Anderson, Javier Hernandez, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and Shinji Kagawa, the Guardian reports. The Dutchman is also still keen to add to his squad, with the likes of Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, Juventus’ Arturo Vidal, AC Milan’s Nigel de Jong and Ajax’s Daley Blind on his radar.
However, according to the report, United’s high salaries are getting in the way of offloading the surplus players. For example, the loan deal that saw Nani head to Sporting as part of the 16 million pound ($26.6 million) transfer of Marcos Rojo only took shape because United agreed to pay Nani’s salary of 115,000 ($190,700) pounds per week. Fellow winger Ashley Young is paid the same amount, while Hernandez takes home 88,000 ($146,000) pounds per week, and Kagawa and Fellaini both earn 70,000 ($116,000).
