[LOUISVILLE-MARYLAND: Men] Ken Lolla‘s 100th win at Louisville was a memorable one asthe No. 9 Cardinals beat No. 5 Maryland, 1-0, before an overflow crowd of 7,047 fans in the opening game at the new $18.5 million Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

Preseason All-American Ricardo Velazco set up Andrew Brody for the lone goal on a header with a perfectly placed cross in the 54th minute.

German goalkeeper Joachim Ball made five saves on the night for his 10th career shutout for the Cardinals, whomove to the ACC this season.

“I hope the people tonight had a positive experience,” said Lolla. “I thoughtit was high level of soccer for so early in the year for two teams that are very, very good teams. Hopefully, the people tonight had a good experience not only in the soccer aspect, but the venue andall the amenities that go with it. I hope that they continue to come back and support us. We have some great games and hopefully the fan base continues to grow.”

Louisville moves to the ACC this season, replacing champion Maryland, which moves to the Big Ten.
