Lionel Messi is one of four injured Albiceleste stars for the World Cup final rematch between Argentina and world champion Germany in Dusseldorf on Wednesday. The Barcelona striker is suffering from muscle fatigue in his right hamstring after Barca’s narrow 1-0 win at Villarreal on Sunday.
Other unavailable players for coach Gerardo Martino’s first international in charge are forwards Maxi Rodriguez, Rodrigo Palacio and central defender Ezequiel Garay; Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi is listed as doubtful with a back injury.
For Germany, coach Joachim Low will be without several of his World Cup stars, including Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, defenders Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels, and forward Mesut Ozil, while defenders Philipp Lahm, Per Mertesacker and striker Miroslav Klose have all retired. New captain Bastian Schweinsteiger is also listed as doubtful with a lingering knee injury.
