No. 9 Wisconsin improved to 6-0-0 with a 3-0 win over No. 19 Portland at the Husky Nike Invitational. The Badgers blitzed the Pilots
for three goals in only 37 minutes for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2011.
"It had been a while since we've beaten a ranked team, and that was something I challenged this
team to do that would help raise the program," Wisconsin coach Paula Wilkins
said. "I'm proud of this group for the effort and the way they kept their emotions
in check against a good Portland team on the road. Right from the start, the effort was there and it resulted in this win. Anytime you have this kind of performance against a well-coached team like
Portland, it's great."
The Badgers continuously attacked the final third and needed only 10 minute to take the lead through Cara Walls
team-leading seventh goal of the season. Kinley McNicoll
made it 2-0 from penalty shot in the 26th minute, and a deflection put Marisa Kresge
all alone in front of the UP goal to make it 3-0 after only 37 minutes.
helped blank the Pilots with a season-high four saves as the Badgers have now shutouts in five of six games.
