[ROUNDUP: Friday] No. 6 Maryland had to settle for a 1-1 tie at Michigan in the Terrapins' first-ever Big Ten match. David Kabelik tallied the equalizer for Maryland with 22 seconds remaining in regulation.

Michigan had struck first in the 75th minute when James Murphy’s back header off a free kick from Rylee Woods just beat Maryland's U.S. U-20 keeper, Zack Steffen.

-- No. 1 UCLA opened its home schedule with a 0-0 overtime against Santa Clara. The Bruins outshot the Broncos, 17-7, but only managed to put three of its attempts on target.

-- No. 10 Virginia opened ACC play with a 1-0 victory over Virginia Tech on Scott Thomsen's second-half goal in front of 5,430 fans at Kloeckner Stadium to honor Bruce Arena's 1989 national championship team.

-- No. 25 Connecticut fell to 1-3-0 when it dropped a 3-1 decision at No. 11 Washington. Sophomore Cyle Larin opened the scoring for the Huskies with his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the seventh minute, but it was all UW after that. Mason Robertson scored for the Huskies in the 14th and 22nd minutes and Josh Heard added a third in the 63rd minute.

-- Stefano Bonomo scored his first career hat trick and added an assist, while fellow senior Connor Hallisey added a pair of goals and assists as well to lead No. 14 California to a 6-1 win over Cleveland State in the Golden Bears' home opener.

-- Lewis Hawke scored his fourth goal of the year in the 76th minute to lift Furman to a 1-0 victory at eighth-ranked Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers managed a 26-7 edge in shots, but Furman keeper Sven Lissek turned away seven shots to record his third shutout of the season.

-- No. 20 South Carolina dropped a 2-1 decision to UNC Wilmington before 2,847 fans at Stone Stadium. Jamie Dell scored the winning goal for the Seahawks in the 82nd minute after the Gamecocks failed to clear a corner kick.

-- For No. 19 UMBC and No. 24 FGCU, trips out west began with 1-0 losses to UNLV and San Francisco, respectively.
