[MLS EXPANSION] Representatives from New York City FC and Orlando City, the two 2015 MLS expansion teams, will gather at MLSsoccer.com studios in New York for
Wednesday's MLS expansion draw to determine who picks first in MLS's various player signing mechanisms.
The draw will take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET and be streamed via
MLSsoccer.com.
NYCFC and Orlando City will select priority order in these mechanisms:
1. MLS Expansion Draft (Picks 1 or 2)
2. MLS
SuperDraft (Picks 1 or 2)
3. USL PRO/NASL Player Priority Ranking (Picks 1 or 2)
4. Designated Player Ranking (Picks 1 or 2)
5. Allocation Ranking (Picks 1 or 2)
6. Discovery
Ranking (Picks 20 or 21)
7. Waiver/Re-Entry Draft Ranking (Picks 20 or 21)
8. Lottery Ranking (Picks 20 or 21)
MLS publishes
roster rules and regulations for how clubs might acquire players -- the two other mechanisms are via trade or Homegrown
(academy) signings -- though there is no explanation of how rankings are used for USL PRO/NASL players, Designated player or Discovery players.
I don't think there should be a draw for each one of these 8 selections. Selection 1,3,5,7 should be put together and 2,4,6,8 together, and one draw to decide which set of selections each team gets.
