It may only be Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League, but Diego Simeone is already labeling Atletico Madrid’s Group A clash against Juventus on Wednesday as a “final.” Simeone noted that last year’s UCL runner-up must push for three points at the Vicente Calderon against the Italian champ after losing its UCL opener to Olympiakos in Athens on Matchday 1.
“This is a final with Juventus, as are all the games and as the next one will be,” Simeone told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s game. “We are a competitive team and I will have many options for tomorrow. The games are all different and depending on the game I will see who will play.”
El Cholo went on to praise Massimiliano Allegri’s team. “Juventus are a team who have always worked very well, they are a solid team that it is hard to take points from. We face Juve with the utmost respect that they deserve as an established team. I like the work done over the years by Juve, we note the great work done behind their victories.”
