McMahon named new national executive director

[AYSO] The American Youth Soccer Organization has named Ian McMahon, the CEO of Hong Kong Sevens/Hong Kong Rugby Football, as its new national executive director. Scott Gimple has also been promoted to deputy executive director to run the day-to-day business operations of AYSO.

Prior to working in rugby -- the Hong Kong Sevens is the largest tournament of its kind -- McMahon spent more than 20 years as an executive with various soccer organizations in Europe and the United States. He had played professionally with Oldham Athletic and Rochdale in England.

Gimple, who has been with AYSO’s National Office for seven years, has served as AYSO’s director of player development, events and camps.

“Ian and Scott will be a strong leadership team as AYSO moves forward,” said AYSO National President Mark Stewart in making the announcement.

McMahon replaces Kim Roberts Hedgpeth, who became the administrator of the Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund in May.

Interesting choice for AYSO, as Ian's background in the US is primarily in Club Soccer (USYSA and USL), not AYSO.
I know him from his time in West Michigan.
