By as early as next season, the top seeds in the UEFA Champions League draw could be made up of the defending champion and the winners of the seven highest-ranked European leagues, which arecurrently Spain, Germany, England, Italy, Portugal, France and Russia. UEFA on Thursday confirmed that the proposal to change the seeding system, which currently relies on a co-efficient systemwhereby past performances in the tournament count for more than a club’s ranking within their country, has been put toward the UEFA Executive Committee to be ratified for next season. In aninterview with Sky Sports, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino said he believes the plan would be ratified for next season.
