Jorge Messi, father of Barcelona star Lionel Messi, has once again claimed that his son had nothing to do with his own tax affairs and should not be included in an investigation into alleged fraud. The Messis were accused of filing incomplete returns from 2007 to 2009, and defrauding the Spanish tax authorities of more than 4 million euros ($5.1 million). According to the claim, income from Messi’s image rights were allegedly held in a ring of shell companies in Uruguay, Belize, Switzerland and the UK.
“I have always said it, he [Lionel] had absolutely nothing to do with it, so there is no need to talk about it. My lawyers are dealing with this issue so it’s something with me and has nothing to do with him,” Messi Sr. told Spanish radio.
