FIFA Backs Clasico Pause for Messi's Record

Lionel Messi heads into Saturday's game against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu just one goal short of Telmo Zarra's record of 251 goals in La Liga, a record that has stood for nearly 50 years. Should the Barcelona striker break it this weekend by scoring twice against his team’s great rival, FIFA has said it would not stand in the way if the league decides to stop the game and honor the Argentine in some way. However, while Spanish league (LFP) President Javier Tebas suggested the game should be paused to honor the achievement, the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) said they have not received any formal requests, and are thus not planning on doing anything special during the game.
