Despite hitting the woodwork several times and having much the better play throughout, Juventus lost 1-0 away to Genoa in Serie A on Wednesday night thanks to a 94th-minute goal from Luca Antonini. That loss coupled with AS Roma’s 2-0 win at home to Cesena brought the Bianconeri and the Giallorossi level on points at the top of the Italian league standings.
“I have said before that Scudetti are also earned with draws,” Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri told Sky Sport Italia. “We fought hard and tried everything to win, but we can’t concede right at the death. To win the title you don’t need 108 points, but just one more than the team in second place.”
He added: “Do everything to win, but if you hit the woodwork, see some great saves and are 30 seconds from the end, try not to lose. We leave here with regrets, as we were six against two on that counter and conceded a goal. That has to make us think and improve in terms of maturity.”
