Penn State completes 16th regular-season championship

[BIG TEN: Women] No. 6 Penn State finished the Big Ten season with a 12-1-0 conference record thanks to a 1-0 win over Maryland. The Nittany Lions, who clinched the regular-season championship for the 16th time with a 2-1 win over Iowa the previous Sunday, will face Northwestern in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament hosted by Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., beginning Wednesday.

Penn State earned its eighth shutout of the season against Maryland, limiting the Terrapins to just two shots on frame. Its lone goal came in the 20th minute thanks to three first-year Lions. Megan Schafer made a quick pass to Maddie Elliston, who eluded a Maryland player and then fed a long ball to Frannie Crouse, who scored off the post.

Wisconsin garnered the No. 2 seed in the tournament after concluding the Big Ten season with a 9-2-2 record. The Badgers will meet Illinois for the second time in six days after playing to a 0-0 draw in double overtime on Oct. 31. Michigan secured the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after concluding the conference season with an 8-2-3 record. Rutgers earned the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after finishing the season with an 8-4-1 record.

Live streamed coverage of all four quarterfinal matches will be available on BTN Plus. The championship game will air live at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
