Top seeds Notre Dame and Syracuse move into semifinals

[ACC: Men] The top seeds Notre Dame and Syracuse won their quarterfinal matches in the ACC Men's Tournament with wins over Virginia and Duke, respectively. Clemson and ACC newcomer Louisville complete the final four at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

Defending national champion Notre Dame used goals from Leon Brown, Brandon Aubrey and Patrick Hodan to defeat Virginia, 3-0, for the first time in seven all-time meetings. Fighting Irish goalkeeper Patrick Wall made eight saves, which was one away from tying a career-high mark.

Notre Dame, the No. 1 seed, will face No. 4 seed Clemson, which beat Wake Forest in a shootout. The Irish did not face the Tigers during the regular season.

Syracuse and Louisville will square off in the second semifinal. The Orange got goals from Alex Halis and Nick Perea in the first half to defeat Duke, 2-0, before 2,533 fans. Sophomore Ivan Gutierrez scored in the 76th minute to lift Louisville to a 1-0 win against North Carolina, ranked No. 2 in the Soccer America Top 25.
