Santa Clara women's snub leaves Smith dismayed

For the first time since 2008 and only the fourth time in the last 28 years, Santa Clara did not make the NCAA Division I Women's Tournament, and longtime coach Jerry Smith is not happy with the NCAA selection committee. His beef: WCC rival San Diego was selected ahead of the Broncos but the "preponderance of evidence" favors SCU: 3-1 win at USD, better RPI ranking (No. 49 vs. No. 55) and more wins (14 vs. 10). "It's a head scratcher, for sure," said Smith. "Our seniors can't get that back."
