Belgium's Mertens OK After Paralysis Scare

Belgium’s team doctor revealed that Dries Mertens should be fit for Napoli’s game with Cagliari this weekend, despite the winger being stretchered off during the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with Wales on Sunday. Mertens was knocked unconscious after clashing heads with George Williams during the Euro 2016 qualifier, and, according to Dr. Kris van Crombrugge, the player was paralyzed for 24 hours before everything returned to normal. Van Crombrugge said Mertens was scared for his career when he couldn’t feel his legs.

    Mertens is knocked unconscious and is paralyzed for 24 hours yet he is cleared to play in less than a week? While the concussion rate does not compare to american football, it seems FIFA and soccer in general hasn't learned anything.
