A sixth MLS club announced plans to enter a second team in USL PRO next season, and a seventh is expected to make an announcement on Sunday. Toronto FC
announced Thursday that it will operate a franchise in USL PRO in 2015. Vancouver has called a press conference for Friday when it is expected to unveil plans for its team.
The LA Galaxy
operated USL PRO semifinalist Galaxy II in 2014. The Montreal Impact, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders have announced plans for USL PRO second teams.
FC’s USL PRO team will be coached by former Canadian international Jason Bent
, an assistant the past four seasons with the MLS squad. The club's name and
playing facility will be announced later.
“USL PRO is pleased to welcome Toronto FC, the second Canadian team entering our league for the 2015 season,” USL CEO Alec Papadakis
said. “Toronto FC boasts an amazing fan base that with certainty will add a great deal of enthusiasm and excitement to USL PRO games. With this
addition, our league continues to build on its competitive and commercial success.”
Other new teams in USL PRO in 2015 have been announced for Austin, Charlotte, Colorado Springs,
Louisville (replacing MLS-bound Orlando City), St. Louis and Tulsa.
