Pellegrini: Aguero 'One of the Best in the World'

Manuel Pellegrini hailed hat-trick hero Sergio Aguero for rescuing Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League hopes with two late goals on Tuesday to give the Premier League champ a 3-2 win against Bayern Munich. After the game, the City coach declared the diminutive Argentine, who has now scored 17 goals in all competitions this season: "One of the best players in the world.”

The win means that City could still qualify for the Round of 16 with a win at AS Roma in its final Group E clash, provided that CSKA Moscow fails to beat Bayern Munich, which has already qualified as the group winner, in its final game. "I said last week that if we have a mathematical chance to qualify, we will fight to the end,” Pellegrini added. “We will see what happens against Roma."

Meanwhile, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, whose team had already won the group ahead of Tuesday’s game, reflected on a positive performance: "I am very, very, very proud of my team,” the former Barcelona boss said. “We were playing against the reigning Premier League champions, that is a challenge and we played with 10 men for much of the game. But we lost. We gave them the game.”
