Second-ranked Florida State is headed back to the Women's College Cup for the fourth year in a row after defeating South Carolina, 5-0, Friday afternoon in Tallahassee with all five goals in a span of
30 minutes.
Berglind Thorvaldsdottir broke a scoreless match in the 32nd minute, while
Jamia Fields and
Cheyna Williams each added two goals. The Seminole defense posted its fourth consecutive postseason shutout and 17th shutout of the season to tie a school record.
The
five goals scored were the most allowed by South Carolina in a decade. The Gamecocks, who were making their first appearance in the quarterfinals, came into the game not allowing a goal in their first
three postseason games.
