NCAA Division I Men's Tournament Scoreboard

No. 16 seed Virginia upset top-seeded and defending champion Notre Dame, 1-0, to move into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Men's Tournament for the 19th time. Providence moved into the final eight for the first time, while UMBC is in the quarterfinals for the first time as a Division I program. The Retrievers won their third game in a row on the road and joined North Carolina as the only surviving unseeded teams.

Nicko Corriveau had the lone goal in the 82nd minute when he picked up the rebound to score his fourth goal of the 2014 season on a rebound after Guatemalan freshman Pablo Aguilar directed a Scott Thomsen free kick off a Notre Dame defender.

-- Notre Dame's defeat leaves No. 2 UCLA as the top seed left in the tournament. The Bruins held on to beat No. 15 California, 3-2, in Westwood. Chase Gasper and Brian Iloski (with a 30-yard blast) both scored their first goals of the season, and Leo Stolz fed Jordan Vale for the decisive third goal after Cal had cut their lead to 2-1. Connor Hallisey scored the first Golden Bear goal, then set up Stefano Bonomo for the second.

-- Mamadou Kansaye scored on a penalty kick in the first half to give UMBC a 1-0 win at No. 13 Louisville. The Retrievers are unbeaten in their last nine contests (8-0-1) and have not allowed a goal in 290 minutes of action in the NCAA Tournament.

-- No. 3 seed Michigan State rallied from two goals down in the last 15 minutes to tie No. 14 seed Washington, 2-2, and go on to win the shootout, 4-3. All the scoring in East Lansing came in the last 25 minutes. James Moberg and Steven Wright scored to put UW ahead 2-0, but an own goal and Tim Kreutz's equalizer with 124 seconds to play evened the score.

-- A Markus Naglestad free kick from 30 yards late in the second half gave No. 11 Providence a 1-0 in over UC Irvine that moved the Friars into the quarterfinals for the first time in their history.

-- Georgetown rallied from a goal down in the 80th minute to beat Syracuse, 2-1, on a pair of goals off Tyler Rudy corner kicks. Keegan Rosenberry scored the equalizer, and Jared Rist won the game with a golden goal in the 94th minute, the first goal of his collegiate career. Alex Halis had put the Orange ahead early in the second half.

-- Creighton advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over Big East rival Xavier on goals by German Fabian Herbers and former JC star Fernando Castellanos. With the win, the Bluejays advanced to the quarterfinals for the 10th time in the last 18 years.

-- Unseeded North Carolina reached the quarterfinals for the sixth time in the past seven years with a 2-1 win over ACC champion Clemson. Rob Lovejoy broke the 1-1 tie with his second goal of the game in the 71st minute.
